Meditation in Yoga

The Power of Mediation

Many yoga classes in America only teach asanas which are the physical postures. This is oftentimes also often considered a gym workout. For many years I was under the same impression that yoga only involved physical practice. It wasn’t until I began to learn Patanjali‘s 8 limbs of yoga that I experienced an awakening to my inner self. I now referred to the 8 limbs as a complete practice. Before learning this complete practice, meditation was a mystery to me. I was unaware that external blessings are a byproduct of a disciplined Yogi.

I would go to yoga class and expect bliss but I honestly had no idea what bliss was. Very soon after I begin to practice Patanjali’s 8 limbs of yoga on a daily basis I received the blessings. I can only describe these blessings is that through the internal world of self-work began to influence my external world. When I became internally stable, disciplined, and balanced my life in the external world began to do the same. The word bliss took on a new meaning and became the blessings of my internal work brought into my reality.

Meditation played a huge part in my ability to control and discipline my mind. Once I was able to meditate, I also received an internal strength over my ability to focus. This newly acquired strength and mental clarity gave me the stability to follow my dreams and goals in the material world.

Through meditation, I came to a feeling of complete contentment within myself. A happiness that can only be found within.
